1. No contact rule

Chidiac believes that putting distance between you and your ex is an essential part of the healing process after a breakup.

“The more you’re bombarded with someone, the longer the memories, or even the hope, linger. With the no contact rule, you can start building a future without them in your mind,” he explains.

This rule includes removing your ex from social media and telling your loved ones not to mention what your ex is up to.

“That’s the hardest part of a breakup – your whole ‘perceived’ future has been shattered into a million pieces. When that person isn’t as much in your awareness, you start to become your best self again,” he advises.

2. Give yourself the right amount of time

Chidiac believes that the process of healing from a breakup shouldn’t be rushed, as it can be an important time to reflect on our lives and take stock of what we want for our future.

“You will hear people telling you to go back to the gym and start your hobbies again, but at your own pace. Feel the emotions you need to feel and don’t try to rush the process,” he said.

Daniels Chidiac’s tricks to get over your ex

1. Don’t contact your ex – delete them from social media and tell your friends and family not to talk about it.

2. Don’t rush the healing process – take time to feel your emotions and let them pass over time

3. Take a journey – changing your environment will help change your outlook on life

4. Don’t keep your thoughts to yourself – talk your feelings out to your friends and family until you get tired of talking about them

5. Don’t rush into a new relationship — let it happen when it feels natural

3. Travel to a new place

Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery to change the way you think.

According to Chidiac, travel is a great way to distract yourself during a difficult breakup and can help you avoid falling into a rumination pattern.

“Travelling to a new place creates a lot of mental stimulation, and that’s what you need. It keeps you from sitting on your couch all day going through the same scenarios,” says Chidiac.

4. Talk to friends and family

No matter how much you think you’re annoying them, always talk to your friends and family about your recovery after the break.

According to Chidiac, “Even though you might sound like a broken record on repeat, especially right after the breakup, you’re allowed to be. In your own time, you’ll eventually slow down the conversations about your ex because, honestly, you’re just sick of it.

5. Don’t date too early

Chidiac’s final rule is to think twice about jumping into the dating pool right after you’ve become single.

The danger of dating too soon, says Chidiace, is that “everything we do right after a breakup is comparing the new date to connecting with our ex, and that’s not always a positive.”

“Plus, it can make us want to pass on the toxic energy our ex instilled in us to someone else,” he adds.
