The Quechula Temple, a 16th-century Roman Catholic church, was built under the Grijalva River amid a drought and a deadly heatwave in Mexico.

During the construction of the Malpaso Dam in the 1960s, the church was completely submerged, and although it is often partially exposed when water levels are low, it is completely exposed due to the drought.
