Viola come il mare 2 with Francesca Chillemi and Can Yaman: preview and broadcast date

Producer Luca Bernabei has announced that the second season will take place.

We just wrote the theme of the series, so the main story of the second season is ready. Let’s start writing the episodes now. I am happy that this series is also written by Silvia Leuzzi, who has a great career and is a very intelligent woman.

Viola come il mare will have a sequel: the words of producer Luca Bernabei

Can we expect six new episodes?

Yes, six premieres and twelve 50-minute episodes. Through Viola Vitale, we want to say that you can be beautiful, intelligent career women, have a life, have a complex job, and don’t give up your femininity and the strength that comes with it because of it. It’s a series that we’re very proud of and have built bit by bit. With an actress, Francesca Chillemi, who grew up with us and is part of our family.

Do you already know when filming will start and when Viola come il mare 2 will be broadcast?

We will start filming in spring or summer of 2023. Season 2 is expected to air next year. In autumn 2023, at the latest in spring 2024. We won’t keep you waiting long. Normally we bring back a series every year, at least every year and a half. Partly because it adds realism to the story, and partly because attention wanes when too much time passes. And when we like the series, we write it quickly.

Besides Francesca Chillemi and Can Yaman, will there be other new additions to the cast?

I can’t say much, but yes, of course we will see Francesca Chillemi and Can Yaman again and there will also be newcomers.

Could you give me a taste of what we will see in the new episodes of Viola come il mare?

There will be new characters that will on the one hand throw Viola into the crisis and on the other hand help her on her way. In addition, we will see an important focus of Viola’s work. There will be very interesting new sentimental antagonists. That’s the best I can tell you.

Viola has a neurological disorder called synesthesia. How did you approach this topic in order to be able to bring it to television?

We did research and read many books. We are in contact with the national association that represents those who suffer from the synaesthesia disorder, which manifests itself in different ways. We picked one that was narratively useful. In our case, but this is not always the case, we have made synesthesia a symptom of a more serious condition, hole neuron syndrome. We needed it to create a compelling arc to the story and add depth to Viola’s character.

I loved the colorful breath you used to choose to portray synesthesia on the show.

It was not easy to make synesthesia visually understandable. We went through several phases. We colored the people who looked like Smurfs or the Hulk (laughs, editor’s note). We made some backgrounds but it felt like a pop art painting. And then we decided to breathe. It was important to us to express the profound effect of this syndrome on Viola. Feeling the feelings of others can be a gift or a condemnation.

Has Francesca Chillemi been in contact with professionals or people affected by this disorder?

Yes, she was always in touch with the association, she spoke to people suffering from synesthesia and tried to make what she saw understandable through her facial expressions. She was very good.

Based on the novel Do you know summer? by Simona Tanzini, what was the process that led to what we saw on TV?

I loved the book very much. It’s beautifully written. The setting and the idea of synaesthesia were very strong. We started from there and changed the character a bit. In the novel, the protagonist is a middle-aged woman, quite cynical, with a deep sense of humor, but more disaffected than our viola. Our decision was to give her an important illness but make her happier. The novel did not look for the father, who was a horizontal band for us. There wasn’t even the Francesco story, but a slight interest in a cop. We turned the story between Viola and Francesco into a continuous sentimental suspense. They are two beings who will be attracted to each other forever, let’s see if they come to a relationship sooner or later.

How are the bets formed?

We partly start from true stories, from news reports, from novels, from lived stories, we have a wide range of research. Many of these are messages that are then completely transformed. What interests us more than the fact itself is how it affects the characters. Our stories are almost always cathartic, we don’t tell the mystery as an end in itself, rather than asking “Who did it?”, we answer “Why did it go this far?”. Our stories are soothing, they try to heal the wounds that arise in people’s lives. We try to be close to reality but give some light to the end of the stories.

Was the series conceived with the faces of Francesca Chillemi and Can Yaman from the start, or is it a decision you’ve made over time?

Francesca Chillemi has been working with us for a very long time. We were looking for a series that suits her. So her viola was sewn on. As for the character of Francesco Demir, we couldn’t find the right actor. Chillemi has an aesthetic, a character, a very strong stage presence, she needs to have someone by her side who is as strong aesthetically and temperamentally as she is, otherwise there will be an imbalance. We worked with Can on Sandokan and we knew it was perfect. He was working with an Italian coach and when we saw him with Francesca Chillemi they went crazy.

In fact, Can Yaman performed in Italian without using dubbing.

He worked hard to act in a language that wasn’t his own. Also, in the scenes that we shot at the beginning, his Italian was still a bit harsher than what he spoke at the end of the shoot, so he decided to repeat those scenes himself, which is the most difficult thing for an actor to do. can do. The actors are not voice actors. It was very difficult. For our part, we supported him with a paperwork that helped him to always be precise and avoid, for example, Italian words that contain diphthongs that do not exist in his language and which he therefore found more difficult to pronounce. But he really was a great professional.

All that remains is to watch the season 1 finale and wait for Viola come il mare 2.
