In the new trailer for Desperation Road, a young woman on the run has no choice but to trust an ex-con and his family.
In the thriller, Garrett Hedlund plays ex-con Russell Gaines, Willa Fitzgerald plays the woman on the run, Maben, and Mel Gibson plays Russell’s father – the actor made headlines for appearing in the new John Wick series “The Continental “ played along.
The film was directed by Nadine Crocker (Continue) from a screenplay by Michael Farris Smith, which he adapted from his 2017 novel of the same name.
The trailer begins with Maben returning to her motel room and being asked by a police officer what she is doing.
“When I go back to my room, I didn’t do anything,” she says, before the officer violently grabs her and says, “You never do that.”

He forces her into his patrol car before two shots are fired in the middle of the night.
Meanwhile, Russell is on the bus heading home when he is met by Ryan Hurst’s character, who is coming home to his father (Mel Gibson) and mother (Kat Foster).
‘What happened to your face?’ Russell’s father Mitchell asks, to which Russell replies, “Just a little parting gift from the boys.”
We see footage of Hurst’s character and another violently punching him as Hurst tells him as he lies on the ground, “They let you out sooner.” “You’re not out of my reach, boy.”
Later that evening, over a few drinks, Mitchell says to his son, “You’re too hard on yourself. We can be forgiven.”
Russell is driving when he is pulled over by a police officer (Woody McClain), who happens to be an old friend.
The cop tells Russell, “There’s no point in keeping it a secret.” One of us was shot with his own pistol… which we can apparently find.
This shot directly shows Maben running with the gun she used to kill the police officer.

Back Home: Meanwhile, Russell is on the bus home when he is met by Ryan Hurst’s character as he comes home to his father (Mel Gibson) and mother (Kat Foster).
Ryan: We see footage of Hurst’s character and another severely beating him as Hurst tells him as he lies on the ground, “They let you out early.” You’re not out of my reach, boy.
Maben is seen hugging her young daughter and saying that they will “stick together.”
Russell is sitting outside in his truck enjoying a cigarette when Maben points the gun at him and tells him to get in the truck and drive.
It doesn’t take long before Russell takes the gun from her and says he’ll give it back to her if she tells him who it belongs to.
She tells him at the campfire that she shot the police officer while he tells her she can hide in a house on his family’s property while Mitchell tells Russell, “I have your back.”
The trailer ends with a series of dramatic shots in which Russell tells Maben, “It seems like you and I are connected by some kind of invisible rope.”
“Life is a whirlwind.” “We’re all caught up in it,” says Mitchell as the trailer comes to an end.
