British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab announced his resignation on Friday April 21 after an independent report found he had been morally bullying officials.

UNITED KINGDOM – Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab announced his resignation on Friday April 21 after an independent report found he had morally harassed officials, a setback for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, with whom he was closely linked.

“I am writing to you that you are resigning from your government,” writes Dominic Raab, also Minister of Justice, in this letter to Rishi Sunak. “I had asked for this investigation and I pledged to withdraw if it found any facts of harassment, whatever they might be. I think it’s important to keep my word,” he wrote.

“Bully”, “rude” and “aggressive”

This inquiry was launched following eight complaints about his conduct as Foreign Secretary, Brexit Secretary or on a previous visit to the Ministry of Justice.

The Guardian newspaper reported in November that the judge’s appointment of Dominic Raab had raised concerns among many officials, with some considering resigning. According to the British daily, ministry officials had described a “culture of fear” within a service run by a “rude” and “aggressive” “tyrant”.

Dominic Raab has consistently denied these allegations, which have poisoned the government for months and drawn widespread criticism from the opposition.

The report submitted to the Prime Minister on Thursday and not yet published, “all but two complaints rejected”, the minister specified in his letter and continues to judge them as “false”. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak assured him that he would always have his “full confidence” and said he would “carefully study the report’s conclusions”.

He is the third minister to resign from Rishi Sunak’s government following various allegations, adding another stain to the prime minister’s pledge to show “integrity, professionalism and accountability” in office following the series of scandals under Boris Johnson .
