This week, the Ferron-Quintal affair surrounding Indefensible caused a stir on social networks.
Several viewers took to the barricades to denounce the violence of this story, in which a priest (Benoît Brière) and his wife (Ingrid Falaise) abuse their children and even sexually abuse them.
One of the most common criticisms raised by the public concerned the poorly chosen “timing” (the upcoming holidays) for depicting such horror scenes. You can find some comments here.
Izabel Chevrier, author of “Indefensible,” answers this question for Internet users. “The number of family dramas and worries around the holidays is increasing,” she said.
Even more children are abused at Christmas. So, for me, there is no better time than this to raise awareness about child abuse and domestic violence.
“If this cause could raise people's awareness and perhaps even give them the courage to denounce the violent situation they are experiencing, that would be extraordinary,” she adds.
“When you tell people that, they usually take a step back. Just because it's difficult to talk about doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Since this began, I have received dozens of emails and private messages from now-adult children who have been violent and abused, thanking us for speaking out about it. »
She continues: “By the way, there is no good 'time' to talk about child abuse, whether it's June 24th, Christmas, Easter or Valentine's Day.” As far as I'm concerned, we should talk about it every day. We have a social obligation to take care of these children. »
People saying, “Come on, we shouldn't put that on TV,” that breaks my heart because it's like saying, “People who experience situations like that, we shouldn't talk about it.” For It just motivates me more to talk about it.
Nevertheless, the author states that she has received more messages of gratitude for dealing with a topic that is as difficult as it is reproachful.
The Ferron Quintal story continues next week in Indefensible. “Marianne will join Léo in this matter because there will be a change of heart in the couple, which means there will have to be two lawyers. […] This Ferron Quintal story will also be very stressful for Marianne as she is pregnant and it will be difficult to learn about child abuse. »
Ferron-Quintal's trial will not take place until after the holidays.
We will talk to you very soon about what the author told us about the mid-season finale that could keep us on the edge of our seats.
