India adopts G20 plan to achieve development goals

New Delhi, June 12 (Pressa Latina) Today at the meeting of development ministers, representatives of the G20 countries adopted plans to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals and mitigate the effects of climate change.

During the meeting in the city of Varanasi, more than 200 delegates reaffirmed their commitment to the full and effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The relevant program presented by India outlines an integrated roadmap for the development of an approach that enables sustainable development in its three dimensions of economic, social and environmental in a balanced and integrated way.

Participants also called for concrete and collective action by the Union to create opportunities for all and to address vulnerabilities and structural imbalances, particularly those faced in particular by least developed countries and small island states.

Speaking to the press, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar emphasized that the meeting’s action plan also places a strong emphasis on women’s leadership in achieving the SDGs.

He also referred to India’s call to implement initiatives related to people-based economic growth.

He noted that his government has addressed the fiscal gap issues and debt challenges in view of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Similarly, Jaishankar addressed various challenges in his speech to the forum, saying that the prospects for a global economic recovery remain bleak due to supply chain disruptions, the ongoing debt crisis and pressures on energy security, food and fertilizer.

He therefore called for accelerated action to achieve a balanced, sustainable and just world.
