The head of Indian diplomacy made the remarks at the inauguration of a joint project on Foakaidhoo, one of the inhabited islands in the administrative division of Shaviyani Atoll, along with his Maldivian counterpart, Abdulla Shahid.
The Shaviyani Foakaidhoo Community Center is one of 45 high-impact projects New Delhi is working on with the Male government.
Indian cooperation in sports and youth development has expanded rapidly through equipment donations and training of Maldivian athletes, the foreign minister said.
“We have launched grant projects to create youth centers, strengthen sports infrastructure and open-air gyms on 64 islands including Foakaidhoo,” Jaishankar said.
This community center is an excellent example of the high-quality social infrastructure being built in the Maldives as part of the development partnership between the two countries, the Foreign Minister added.
