In a statement, representatives of the Mayan ancestral organizations emphasized that they are in permanent assembly and will continue with further massive peaceful demonstrations.
“If necessary, we will once again mobilize massively with the various sectors of the country, as we did from October 11 to 14, because we are clear that the power lies with the people, and we will enforce it in this way,” they explained.
However, they pointed out that they are aware of the Supreme Court’s “nefarious plans” to contribute to the destruction of our democracy.
“So we must be vigilant and take the appropriate measures,” they added in the text.
They thanked the residents who have worked hard these days to ensure that they do not go hungry and the social organizations that took part in the peaceful demonstrations last Friday, November 3rd and Saturday, November 4th.
They mentioned the 64 markets of this capital, the residents of zones three and seven (Colonia Bethania), 18 and 15 and other districts of this city.
They described it as a historical fact and a step in building peace and reconciliation in Guatemala that indigenous peoples and different sectors united for the first time in a single thought and a single voice to save the nation.
“The coup plotters assure that we will soon tire and that if that happens they can continue with their plan, but it is our obligation to continue our fight tirelessly until the coup plotters resign or are fired,” they concluded.
The deputy, considered an instrument of the corruption pact, launched investigative measures against the Supreme Electoral Court, the electoral process and the Semilla Movement party, winner of the August 20 elections.
The indigenous communities that began protests on October 2 in the land of the Quetzal want to ensure that the popular will expressed through the vote is respected.
