Indonesian fitness influencer Justyn Vicky killed by 200kg barbell – Fox News

A 33-year-old Indonesian fitness influencer died on July 15 while trying to lift a 450-pound barbell, breaking his neck.

Justyn Vicky, who has over 30,000 followers on Instagram, suffered a fatal accident trying to straighten his legs while holding the barbell over his shoulders. He was accompanied by a spotter.

The bodybuilder previously described the exercise as “dangerous as hell” in a fitness video he posted to his Instagram on July 5.

“The squat gives you opportunities that no other exercise you can think of gives you. But she’s dangerous as hell,” Vicky can be heard saying in the Instagram video.

In a video obtained by an Indonesian TV station, Vicky can be seen trying to lift the giant barbell. He is accompanied by his squatter, who is standing directly behind him.

As he tries to hold the weight, Vicky falls back to a seated position with the bar falling onto his neck. His scout also loses his balance and falls backwards during the horrifying incident.

After the accident, Justyn was rushed to a local hospital with a broken neck and critical compression of vital nerves connecting the heart and lungs.

He underwent emergency surgery but died shortly thereafter.

The Paradise Bali, the gym where he worked and where the accident happened, wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post that Vicky was “more than just a fitness expert.”
