Influencer Mayra Bittar caused controversy on social media after posting printouts of a follower’s plea for help. In the news, a woman asked for R$15 to buy petrol and Mayra suggested selling her cell phone to buy ingredients to sell Brigadeiro (see news below).
“Mayra, I’m really sorry to bother you. I really need R$ 15 to buy ‘me’ my gas. Couldn’t you give me that power?” said the devotee.
“May I give you a tip? Sell your phone! Buy ingredients for Brigadeiro and sell them until you start saving money. Sometimes we have to take two steps back and that’s okay! Better than asking and relying on others,” Mayra replied.

to g1Mayra explained that she had previously spoken to the girl who asked for help other times and that the messages released were only part of the conversation. The influencer said she has not refused help but is willing to help in other ways and is even looking for companies to employ her. The influencer also made it public that she was subject to attacks on the internet (see full position at the end of the report).
“I had complete freedom to set an example for her, not just to solve an immediate problem she was having, but maybe to think about the future. I may have been unhappy in my communication with outsiders who don’t have access to context. It was an affection I had. A learning experience for this topic of communication, how I work with it,” says Mayra.
In the deductions published on the Internet, the follower expressed her gratitude after Mayra’s response, which underlined her desire to help solve the problem in the long term. However, the backlash online has been negative. In a Twitter post last Friday (30th), thousands of people criticized the influencer. The post has more than 45,000 likes.
“And the pride of the blogger from Goiás? The woman asked for 15 reais to buy cooking gas. The blogger simply told her to sell her phone to buy ingredients and sell Brigadeiro! And she even had the guts to post because she thought she was the ‘queen’ of entrepreneurship!” the publication wrote.
In the post, netizens criticized Mayra.
“I know nobody is obligated to help, but being aware of the ridiculousness should be obligatory!” wrote one young man.
“Can’t believe this. The craziest thing is that she thought it was so awesome that she posted this for all to admire,” another person commented.

“Many decided how they wanted and I understand those judgments because no one had access to all the conversations, right? And also not to my story with the [moça que pediu ajuda]! I’m getting multiple messages and I’m reassured because I spoke to Solange and she herself was concerned about everything that happened,” he said.

Positioning of Mayra Bittar
THE [moça que enviou a mensagem] Follow me for a while and always comment and interact in my stories. It’s a cutie I never knew if she was wrong or not, but I always answered like I answer everyone there.
The day she asked me “R$15 for petrol” I had complete freedom to set an example for her, not only to solve an immediate problem she was having, but yes, maybe to her to think future. I may have been unhappy in my communication with outsiders who don’t have access to context, but she was already a person who was already interacting with me. It was an affection I had. A lesson on this topic of communication, how I work with it.
When I wrote about “Cellular”, “Brigadeiro”, it was an example of how to take two steps back to take a thousand steps forward. At no point did I refuse to help her, but I was willing to help in other ways (including finding companies to employ her in the town where she lives).
Of course, when I posted my positioning on the networks, without publishing their page, I posted and said that sometimes something that would be easy for us (like taking some money out of our pockets) to those who need it, maybe not much help. It might help at that moment, but it’s not something that will support the person.
I have had many experiences helping people with money and people who have taken bad turns in life with that help. That’s why I always prefer to give food, help with school supplies, education, etc. than just money.
I was at my aunt’s wake when I started receiving several messages with opposing positions and support on the subject, including some attacks. That’s when I positioned myself on Instagram and said I don’t like helping people with money (and until then I’ll keep my position).
And then… it exploded! People have posted on gossip profiles by millions of followers but posted part of the conversation.
Many judged as they wished and I understand those judgments because nobody had access to all the conversations, right? And also not to my story with the [moça que pediu ajuda]!
But since then I’ve been getting a lot of messages and I’m reassured because I spoke to him [moça que pediu ajuda] and she herself was worried about everything that was happening.
