Just before he went missing, he posted a series of links to fundraisers to help fund the Sound of Freedom.

The crowdfunded film has been at the center of controversy since it premiered last month.

It was produced by Utah-based distribution company Angel Studios, which emerged from the ashes of VidAngel – a streaming service that allowed users to filter out objectionable content from movies (such as violence, nudity, or profanity) and stream those movies online for consumers to stream .

VidAngel was sued multiple times and eventually filed for bankruptcy – before transitioning to new ownership and becoming Angel Studios in 2021.

In addition to the backlash surrounding the production company, critics of the film also accused it of “twisting the truth about child exploitation and catering to QAnon conspiracy theorists,” according to The Washington Post.

In 2020, Vice World News ran a breaking story about the man who inspired the film, Tim, and his organization, Operation Underground Railroad.

The outlet claimed to have noticed a “pattern of image buffing and mythology building, a series of exaggerations that are altogether quite misleading” and a large “gap between the group’s actual practices and some of their alleged achievements.” ‘

The Davis County Attorney’s Office in Utah has also spent more than two years investigating OUR on allegations of “communications fraud, witness tampering and retaliation against a witness, victim or whistleblower,” Deseret.com reported. However, no charges were ever brought against the organization.

The Post also noted that the film was heavily promoted on QAnon forums, as both Tim and the actor who played him in the film have “expressed their support for some of QAnon’s wildest claims.”

In a video shared on his Twitter in 2020, Tim once accused the furniture company Wayfair of “selling children” — a popular theory propagated by QAnon supporters.

As for Jim, who revealed that Tim specifically asked him to play him in the film because he was blown away by his performances in The Count of Monte Cristo and the biblical drama The Passion of the Christ, he has in the past spoken at QAnon conventions.
