Titanic director James Cameron has been asked to help produce a drama series about the Titanic diving disaster that has claimed five lives, industry insiders have claimed.
A streaming network is said to have contacted the acclaimed filmmaker, who is also an avid submarine pilot and made 30 dives himself to the wreck of the tragic cruise ship.
Hamish Harding, 58, Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Sulaiman Dawood, 19, French Navy pilot Paul-Henry (PH) Nargeolet and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush all died in the tragedy last month.
The OceanGate submarine lost communications with its support vessel on Sunday, June 18, and search and rescue teams searched the sea for days before confirming the crew had disappeared.
Now the world-shaking tragedy could be made into a series, with The Sun reporting that an insider has named Cameron the “director of choice” for a major streaming giant.
Titanic director James Cameron is also an expert on deep-sea exploration

A source told the newspaper: “The Titan disaster is already being considered a big series for one of the biggest streamers in the world – and James is the director’s choice of choice.”
“It’s a subject close to his heart.”
“He told the story of Titanic so compassionately that it felt like a natural step for him to take this on.”
“Retracing the footprints of the people aboard Titan is a massive undertaking, but it would require a significant investment of time, money and resources.”
Cameron is well placed to take over the series, having won three Oscars, including Best Picture, for the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, and is also an expert in deep-sea exploration.
It has also been reported that Hollywood stars are being considered as potential leads in the project.
Matt Damon, who is set to star in the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer, is said to be on the actors’ wish list.

Kumail Nanjiani, star of romantic comedy The Big Sick, was also named by The Sun.
Cameron, 68, previously used the now-defunct Mir submersibles operated by the Russian Academy of Sciences to dive to the wreck.
He used the submarines to film the wreck of the Titanic while filming the film of the same name with Leonardo DiCaprio.
His underwater excursions took place in the mid-1990s and early 2000s, going to a depth of 12,000 feet (3,821 meters).
