We’ve published a full article on Intel Alder Lake processors – the 12th Gen Core. We therefore refer to this article to learn more and content ourselves with summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of the Core i5-12500. This model has 6 high-performance cores (P-Core) and no low-power cores (E-Core). An original configuration that puts an end to the hybrid aspect of the vast majority of Alder Lake processors. However, it offers hyperthreading and therefore shows 12 threads on its counter. The base frequency is 3 GHz, in certain cases 4.6 GHz can be reached. Note that the Turbo Boost Max feature, which allows you to hit a few megahertz under certain conditions, isn’t available here. In addition, power consumption is lower than the K models, with a base energy envelope of 65 watts and a maximum consumption of 117 watts. Note, however, that this maximum consumption is only held for a few moments, unlike the K models, which are fully unlocked at this level. This results in power consumption that peaks for a few tens of seconds during a heavy task before falling and stabilizing at a lower level as the task continues.
