Russian attackers and Ukrainian defenders once again fought heavy battles in eastern Ukraine today. “The most intense fighting is taking place around Bakhmut and Marjinka,” the Ukrainian General Staff said in its daily situation report.
On these two sections of the front alone, nearly 30 Russian attacks were repulsed today. Both sides also fought heavy battles near Limansk. Airborne warnings were also issued in Kiev and much of the rest of the country in the afternoon.
Kiev: Moscow wants to capture Bakhmut by May 9
According to the Ukrainian military leadership, Russian troops are trying to completely conquer Bakhmut by May 9 at the latest.
For Moscow, this would be a prestigious success on Victory Day over Nazi Germany. Since the capitulation, which actually came into force on May 8, 1945, was signed a second time on the night of May 9 at the Soviet headquarters at the request of Stalin, this day is considered a public holiday in Russia.
