An Outaouais motorist who was intercepted by police while going 45 km/h over the speed limit thought it best to call the police to improve his situation. It hit him hard.
This crazy affair took place early Wednesday morning around 6.10am in the municipality of La Pêche when a public security officer of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais intercepted a driver traveling at 135 km/h in a 90 km/h zone .
The 35-year-old motorist questioned the actual speed he was driving and allegedly demanded the patrol officer show him the radar used to corner him.
Given the police officer’s refusal, the Gatineau individual merely mentioned that he would call 911 to complain.
The man is said to have even told the police officer “that he didn’t think he was a real police officer”.
The motorist called 911 to express his dissatisfaction, which resulted in an additional $504 fine for calling the police without a valid reason.
He received a $312 ticket with three demerits for speeding. He was also fined $64 for not having proof of insurance.
The authorities recalled that in the case of speeding, police officers “have no legal obligation obliging them to display the speed on the radar, for a number of technical and training reasons, and that the fact that the accused refuses to display the speed is no possible defense in court”.
