International Theater Colloquium in Uruguay

Montevideo, December 4th (Prensa Latina) Theater as a field of influence and reflection on social and political phenomena will be discussed starting today in a forum that brings together playwrights and critics from the region.

Under the motto “Making/thinking theater from the south”, the International Theater Colloquium is returning to in-person operations. Post-pandemic, political upheavals and social disruptions.

Within the thematic axes, there is interest in “popular theaters and the plebeian scene”, which will be the subject of a panel of Brazilian and Uruguayan experts tomorrow.

For today there are dissertations on the topic “Dress rehearsal for an academic carnival” and on Tuesday also on the topic “The Uruguayan carnival as folk theater”, with lectures such as “Contributions to thinking about humor in Uruguayan parodism”.

The circus as a folk theater and puppet show will be an exchange between speakers from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

The memory of the past, censorship, the new rights, sexual hegemonies and dissidence, as well as the impact of public policies will also be the subject of reflection in the working sessions that will take place in the emblematic Teatro Solís in this capital. until December 6th.
