With 12 days to go before WWDC 2023, tempers are heating up, especially that of Mark Gurman, who is still very familiar with Apple’s little papers. So the latter provides some clues (leaks? speculations?) on the innovations of iOS 17.
New on the side of Wallet, Locate, AirPlay and SharePlay
According to him, the next iPhone system will include improvements in several applications and functions, including Wallet, Locate, AirPlay and SharePlay.
Introduced with iOS 15, SharePlay allows iPhone and iPad users to sync TV shows, movies, and songs with others. There were no changes in iOS 16. There were also delays in the SharePlay integration with the Game Center. However, the Bloomberg reporter does not provide details on possible upgrades to the feature.
There would also be changes at the AirPlay level. Apple is said to have been in talks with hotels and venues that offer TVs and speakers to improve users’ video and audio quality. In the US, many institutions have partnered with Google, and Apple may be hoping to break into that market.
And a diary too!
In April, we learned that Apple was working on a diary application to improve other features of iOS 17. The latter should actually be cleverly integrated with other applications and functions of the iPhone.
Mark Gurman takes the opportunity to come back to this future iOS 17 application that would introduce a new way of note-taking and a stronger social dimension for the iPhone. He’s talking about a feature that would determine when a user is around other people (perhaps related to work/family and identified via “Locate”?).
The app seems to be a health initiative and would be used to analyze a typical day for each user. She could fit in a mood tracking feature/app also considered for the next operating system. The goal here would be to track users’ mood, answer questions about their day, and see results over time.
