Iowa high school football Week 4 live score updates: Southeast Polk slides past Centennial – Des Moines Register

Week 4 of the Iowa high school football season was just as fun as the first three.

We traveled with reporters across the state on Friday to bring you the best action from top games across Iowa. Unfortunately we couldn’t play every single game.

Luckily, we have this live blog to bring you all the action from the games you weren’t able to attend in person.

The Dutch hold a 10-point lead over Class 4A No. 2 Xavier. There are just under six minutes left to play in this competition.

9:50 Waukee rolls over the Valley

The No. 9 Warriors are coming off a big 37-15 win over Valley, although the game was far closer than the posted score. A big TD run late followed by a pick-6 gave Waukee the cushion it needed.

Still, the Tigers were outplayed that night and were 0-4 on the season. Waukee improves to 3-1 and has a meeting with Johnston (2-2) next week.

The Tigers held a 21-7 lead entering the final 12 minutes of play.

9:35 Southeast Polk holds on top of Ankeny Centennial

The Jags gave Southeast Polk their toughest test of the season, but held their own and won 24-21 to move to 4-0. Centennial falls to 2-2.

9:30 Ankeny defeats Johnston

The Hawks earn their second win of the season, a 16-10 win over No. 7 Johnston. The Dragons fall to 2-2 on the year.

9:23 Centennial gets within three points of Southeast Polk

With time running out, the Jags found the end zone with a big passing play, cutting Southeast Polk’s lead to just three points.

With just under three minutes to go the score is 24:21.

9:21 Iowa City West is just one point away from the tie

Despite being outplayed in almost every statistical category, the Trojans have a chance to tie the game late in the fourth. Iowa City High is up 16-8 with just under nine minutes to play, but the Trojans have the ball.

9:20 Dowling defeated Waukee Northwest

The No. 2 Maroons remain perfect this season with a 31-17 win over No. 6 Waukee Northwest.

9:17 Valley isn’t finished yet

The Tigers are right back in the game after Damon Head’s touchdown run from about 5 yards. Valley went for two and converted.

Waukee led 24-15 with just under seven minutes to play.

9:15 ADM well ahead of Norwalk

ADM puts on a show in its first game since Brevin Doll was sidelined with a season-ending injury.

9:10 Southeast Polk extends its lead

The Rams now have a 10-point lead, 24-14, over Ankeny Centennial. This is the first game in 2023 in which the top team has looked remotely uncomfortable.

The Warriors score again after Nile Eddy broke a few tackles and found paydirt. Waukee led Valley around the clock in the fourth quarter.

After falling behind for the first time all night, the first-ranked Rams took the lead just ahead of Ankeny Centennial.

8:45 Johnston strikes right back

The dragons aren’t finished yet. After Ankeny kicks a field goal, Johnston comes onto the field with an 87-yard score from D’Angelo Barkue

The Hawks still led 9-7 late in the third period.

The Ames rusher scored two points on the night and the Little Cyclones led Des Moines Roosevelt 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

8:00 Waukee’s Grant Gammell is shady

Gammell takes a screen pass and misses about 500 people on the Valley defense to take it 65 yards into the red zone. This set up Drew Hurlburt for a 32-yard field goal.

Waukee led 17-7 with less than a minute left in the half.

7:55 Valley gets on the board

The Tigers trail by almost 7 points after a 72-yard drive. Waukee still led 14-7 late in the first half.

7:50 City High strikes again

7:46 Waukee takes a two-point lead over Valley

Grant Gammell shoots the ball into the goal from a few meters away and the Warriors are ahead of Valley 14-0. The Tigers start this season 0-4 when the score doesn’t change.

But still plenty of time. About halfway through the second quarter.

The Jags are just three points behind the top-ranked team in the state. It was a big 31-yard score to get on the board. It’s 7-10, Rams ahead, at the start of the second quarter.

The no. 6 Wolves wasted no time in leveling the score with Dowling. Quarterback Sam Johnson found Maverick Inman from about 35 yards out down the left sideline. It is Inman’s second goal of the season.

The game is completely cramped around 7 o’clock at the end of the first quarter.
