iPhone: a new feature to protect data in the event of theft – Le Journal de Québec

Apple has increased the security of its customers' data with a new feature available in Monday's update.

The new Device Theft Protection feature – available with IOS 17.3 – aims to improve the security of the iPhone and its owner's Apple ID through additional biometric authentication as well as a security period for access to sensitive data.

“Device Theft Protection provides an additional layer of security when your iPhone is away from familiar locations like your home or work, and helps protect your accounts and personal information if your iPhone is stolen. iPhone,” the company said on its website.

In fact, the first moments after stealing a device or even a bank card are critical as the thief will try to carry out transactions quickly. So with the new security feature, the latter not only have to carry out a second Face ID or Touch ID authentication, but also have to wait an hour before they can access it. This delay therefore gives the phone owner time to report the device as lost.

To enable “Device Theft Protection,” simply go to the “Face ID and Passcode” section in iPhone Settings.
