Iran announces “crackdown on spies and terrorists in Iraq and Syria”

(ANSA) – TEHRAN, JANUARY 16 – Iranian state media has revealed that the Revolutionary Guards have launched rocket attacks against “spies” and “terrorist groups” in Iraq and Syria.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has announced the destruction with ballistic missiles of a headquarters of anti-Iranian spies and terrorist groups in some parts of the region,” the official IRNA news agency said. The Revolutionary Guard then said it had launched rocket attacks against ISIS in Syria in response to the bloody attack on January 4 near the grave of General Qassem Soleimani in Kerman.

Around the same time, multiple explosions were reported near the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, Iraq, striking eight targets, an Iraqi security source told ABC News, adding that there were no explosions. There were no casualties among either coalition troops or US forces. Coalition forces also shot down three drones near Erbil airport, the source said. (HANDLING).
