Pro-Iranian militias claim the attack was carried out by US drones
At least two members of the pro-Iran Shiite militia Hashd al Shaabi were killed in a drone strike in Baghdad on Thursday. According to the Saudi broadcaster Al-Arabiya, the commander of the 12th militia brigade, Abu Takwa, and the head of the organization's logistical assistance, Ali Abu Sajjad, were killed in the attack.
The Iraqi media outlet Sabereen News, which is linked to Shiite militias, also reported that the intelligence chief of the pro-Iranian militias was injured. Al-Jazeera broadcaster quoted a source within the militias as saying the attack was carried out by American drones. Earlier this morning, Arabic-language Sky News reported explosions near the international coalition's A-Tanf base in Syria following drone strikes.
Two days ago, an attempted attack on a US military base in northern Iraq was foiled. According to information, a drone was intercepted near the airport in the city of Erbil, a place where American and international forces are concentrated. No casualties or damage were reported.
A few days earlier there was an attack against pro-Iranian militias on the border between Syria and Iraq. According to the Syrian Center for Human Rights, the Americans were behind this attack, which killed around twenty people. The Americans reportedly targeted an arms shipment destined for Iran-backed militias.
