“Isolation, disregard and lack of transparency”: Laval workers go on strike –

Workers in Laval have launched a 24-hour strike to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the position of the city of Laval, which the union says has been blocking talks for “months.”

“The management part […] insists on not revealing his salary offers. Our understanding is that these offers are so ridiculous that city officials are afraid of adding fuel to the fire,” Louis-Pierre Plourde, president of the Laval Blue Collar Union, said on Tuesday.

The 850 workers of the city of Laval will walk through the streets of Laval late Tuesday afternoon to end their route in front of the city hall, where the municipal meeting will take place.

The latter voted by 96% last April in favor of a pressure mandate that could go as far as a strike, and today denounce “the insularity, disregard and lack of transparency of the representatives of the Ministry of Labor in the negotiations” at the table, according to the press release.

In September, the city “unilaterally” canceled a pre-arbitration mediation aimed at “resolving the thousand grievances that have impacted the daily lives of dozens of workers for years,” according to the press release.

Despite Tuesday’s strike, the union invited its members to attend the 50th blood drive in Laval before the demonstration, which will be held at the same time, he said.
