Israel: Agreement on emergency government news

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly agreed with opposition politician Benni Ganz to form an emergency government. Several ministers from the ruling Likud party confirmed this to Israeli media today.

According to reports, the agreement calls for Netanyahu, Defense Minister Joav Galant and former Defense Minister Ganz, from the National Union party, to form a war cabinet.

Former chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot and Likud minister Ron Dermer will serve as non-voting advisors. According to reports, Ganz wants to appoint five ministers to the security cabinet.

On Saturday, Netanyahu offered the two opposition politicians, Jair Lapid and Ganz, to join an emergency government. Negotiations had been going on in the background for days.

It is not yet clear whether opposition leader Lapid will play a role in the emergency government. According to the media, a government position will be kept open for him if he wants to join.
