Israel and Gaza at war: Amnesty International is concerned about civilians

According to CNN, the human rights organization Amnesty International called on Israeli security forces and armed Palestinian groups to protect civilians.

Amnesty International wants both sides to “do everything possible to protect the lives of civilians during the outbreak of fighting in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.”

“We are deeply concerned by the increasing number of civilian casualties in Gaza, Israel and the occupied West Bank and urge all parties to the conflict to respect international law and do everything possible to prevent further outbreaks of bloodshed among civilians,” the body said in a statement.

Amnesty International has stressed the importance of international law as targeted attacks on civilians and “disproportionate attacks that kill or injure civilians are war crimes.”

“Under international humanitarian law, all parties to a conflict have a clear obligation to protect the lives of civilians involved in hostilities,” recalled the organization’s Secretary General, Agnès Callamard.
