If Israel takes “crazy steps,” Iran’s reaction will be “destructive.” This was stated by Tehran Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, citing the possibility that the Islamic Republic could face retaliation from Israel due to the large-scale Hamas attack.
“Important developments are taking place in Palestine,” Kanani began during a press conference, emphasizing that the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation “is the response to the Zionist regime’s repeated desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the daily crimes against it the Palestinian people.” In response to the “politicized and unfounded” accusations against Iran for its alleged role in this Hamas operation, the spokesman quoted by the Mehr Agency said that these were due to the “serious defeat of Israel.”
Iran and the Hamas attack
“The allegations related to an Iranian role” were “based on political reasons,” Kanani said in statements carried by al-Jazeera.
Meanwhile, Iran’s mission to the United Nations has denied Tehran’s involvement in the Hamas attack. “We stand firmly in our unconditional support for Palestine. However, we are not involved in Palestine’s response as it is solely occupied by Palestine itself,” the Iranian UN mission said.
The Iranian mission further stated that “the measures taken by Palestine represent a completely legitimate defense against seventy years of oppressive occupation and cruel crimes of the illegitimate Zionist regime.”
According to a Wall Street Journal reconstruction based on information from senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, Iran helped Hamas plan and organize the attack on Israel. Tehran approved the surprise action, which was carried out on Saturday, October 7, at a meeting between Iranian regime envoys and members of Hamas last Monday, October 2, in Beirut, Lebanon, the newspaper said, said the guard authority. Since August, the Islamic Revolution, in collaboration with Hamas, has played an important role in planning the major attack.
