Israel says it wants to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Elad Goren, from the competent authority, said today that aid deliveries are expected to “increase dramatically” in the coming weeks. This is happening at the request of the USA.
A new joint mechanism was created with the USA, Egypt and the United Nations. Aid deliveries to Gaza must therefore first be checked at the Nizana crossing from Israel to Egypt. There are major concerns that weapons could also be transported to the Gaza Strip in trucks, Goren said.
After inspection, aid deliveries were to be transported from Egypt to the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing and handed over to the United Nations there. These deliveries are only intended for the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Goren spoke of a “humanitarian zone” in the Khan Yunis area.
Water supply “not at normal level”
Goren said water supplies in the Gaza Strip are “not at normal levels” but are sufficient for humanitarian needs. 90 percent of drinking water in the Gaza Strip comes from Palestinian territory itself.
Even before the massacre perpetrated by Hamas terrorists on October 7, only ten percent of water was supplied by Israel. Hamas destroyed one of the water pipes in the attack three weeks ago. Yesterday, around 28.5 million liters of water were delivered to the Gaza Strip through two remaining pipelines. According to Israeli conclusions, there is no food shortage in the coastal strip.
