Israel-Hamas War: At least six Iranian proxy fighters are killed by US forces
A senior US defense official told Fox News that at least six Iranian proxy fighters were killed in US strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stations in the Middle East on Sunday.
According to Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin, IRGC stations are located in the Syrian cities of Abu Kamal and Mayadin. The buildings were reportedly a safe house and training facility, but a senior defense source told Fox that the safe house acted as a headquarters.
An official told Fox that secondary explosions were observed at one of the sites, indicating there was a large amount of flammable munitions or weapons at the facility.
Referring to the U.S. military’s two recent strikes against Iranian-backed targets, the U.S. official said, “This one will hurt them much more than the previous attacks.”
Austin said the airstrikes were “in response to ongoing attacks on U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria.”
“The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he ordered today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests,” Austin’s statement said.
