Seven people were killed on the Palestinian side in another conflagration between armed groups in Gaza and Israel on Wednesday (May 10). This brings the number of people killed in Gaza since the previous day to 22, marking the worst escalation between the two parties since August 2022. At around 9 p.m. local time, another rocket fire erupted from Gaza. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is “very concerned” and wants to make sure “there is no further escalation,” said a UN spokesman in New York.
Since the first rocket fire in the early afternoon, warning sirens have sounded in Israeli locations around the Gaza Strip, but also in the east as far as Beersheba and as far north as Tel Aviv. Before the recent salvos, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reported that “more than 400” rockets had been fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel. Many were intercepted by Israeli anti-missile missiles. “No Israeli civilians have been harmed at this time,” Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said.
Islamic Jihad, an organization labeled “terrorist” by Israel, the European Union and the United States, has been the target of Israeli attacks since Tuesday. He had promised “retaliation commensurate with the crimes committed against him.” [son] people and [ses] militants” after eliminating three of its military leaders in Israeli attacks that killed fifteen people, including four children, in the Gaza Strip, an area controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas since 2007, on Tuesday.

Israeli army operations on Wednesday killed seven other people, including a 10-year-old girl whose remains were seen by a journalist from Agence France-Presse, and four fighters from the People’s Liberation Front of Palestine (PFLP), local authorities said, according to local authorities.
Around the Palestinian territory, residents of Israeli towns have taken shelter in temporary shelters and schools are closed within a 40-kilometer radius, according to Israel Public Broadcaster. Gunfire erupted between Gaza and Israel last week after an Islamic Jihad official died on hunger strike in an Israeli prison.
At least 132 Palestinians, 19 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian have been killed in violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP tally of official Israeli and Palestinian sources.
