At a border crossing in the West Bank, police opened fire on a car believed to have struck two Israelis, killing the three-year-old passenger.
Israeli police fired on a car suspected of ramming two Israelis at a West Bank border crossing on Sunday. The shooting killed a little girl who was in another vehicle, Border Patrol said. Israeli emergency services later said the three-year-old child had died.
The attack occurred at the Ras Bidu checkpoint near the Israeli settlement of Givat Zeev in the occupied West Bank between Jerusalem and Ramallah. According to Israeli police, a man and a woman were sitting in the front of the vehicle, which they used as a ram to rush toward the police. “After shooting at the terrorists, a girl who was in another vehicle at the checkpoint was injured,” Israeli police said in a statement. Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom said a three-year-old child was “pronounced dead” after an examination, without specifying the cause of death. According to paramedics, an Israeli man was slightly injured.
Police said they had “neutralized” the car’s two occupants, without giving details. Palestinian sources said the couple were killed in the shootout.
