Russia called a meeting on the war on Monday, but its ceasefire resolution failed amid opposition from four council members, including the United States, which criticized its plan not to mention Hamas.

“We will definitely convene a new meeting of the Security Council. As practice has shown, no one dares to do this except us,” said Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations.

He did not say when Russia, one of the Security Council’s five permanent members, planned to hold such a meeting.

“As far as a resolution is concerned, I don’t know when we will take the next step and try to pass a resolution,” he added on the Soloviev Live channel.

Russia has repeatedly called for negotiations to end the conflict.

President Vladimir Putin spoke this week with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian and Arab leaders in hopes of starting peace talks.

According to the Hamas Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 4,385 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in the Gaza Strip by incessant bombing by the Israeli army.
