We have the full right to defend ourselves, but we call on everyone, including Israel itself, to defend the civilian population, humanitarian pauses in the fighting to help the people of Gaza. “We also call on the Government of Israel to put an end to extremist settler violence in the Palestinian areas of the West Bank.” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this in an interview with the “Corriere della Sera”. “We want this war to end as quickly as possible. But we also want Israel to eliminate the Hamas terrorist groups. If Israel must continue its military operations, it must do so by respecting international law, protecting civilians and organizing ceasefires that can lead to the release of the hostages and the protection of the citizens of Gaza. We hope to interpret the aspirations, positions and even fears of these two peoples. For this reason, even if it seems impossible today, we want to work on the “two peoples”, two-state formula.
