The impact of the war between Israel and Hamas extends beyond the Middle East.

The war is a topic of conversation among employees across the country – an experience that human resources manager Janie Lopez also had.

“The mood, as you know, is worrying,” Lopez said. “People are more aware of their surroundings again and are paying attention to each other.”

As some companies take a stand on the war, the senior associate dean for leadership studies at the Yale School of Management tracks which companies have spoken out to condemn Hamas’ attack and anti-Semitism and to express support and solidarity with Israel bring to.

As of Tuesday, there were almost 180 companies on the list.

“There is a problem across the industry with attracting and retaining good, talented people. “So when you take a stand, again, you have to keep in mind that that stance may lead to some employees leaving,” Dr. David Vequist, economics professor at the University of the Incarnate Word.

And then there are the financial implications.

“Many of these companies serve a very diverse population, so they have to be very careful about shaking things up because it can impact overall sales,” Vequist said.

We’ve already seen operations affected by the war between Israel and Hamas – from the impact to advertising spending to changes in flight schedules.
