Israel now controls trucks in Kerem Shalom

Israel is opening another border crossing to transport aid to the suffering civilian population in the Gaza Strip. Trucks transporting goods to Gaza will also be able, in the future, to use the Kerem Shalom border crossing, the Israeli COGAT authority responsible for contacts with Palestinians and the military announced last night.

However, as with the previously used Nitzana crossing, the trucks will not go directly to the Gaza Strip. Instead, they should head towards the Rafah crossing, via Egypt. Israel inspects trucks at its border crossings to prevent weapons smuggling. Water, food, tents and medical supplies can be brought into Gaza.

“We would like to emphasize that no supplies from Israel enter the Gaza Strip,” the Cogat and army statement said. “Humanitarian aid to Gaza will continue to be delivered exclusively through the Rafah border crossing in Egypt.”
