The Israeli Armed Forces said on Saturday (14) that they were preparing a ground attack on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the Israeli army said the attack was part of a “largescale operation” that also included attacks by air and sea.
According to experts, it was a land attackwill be one of the main moments of the war between Israel and Hamas. So far, Israeli forces have chosen to attack Gaza through bombings an option that the country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, often prefers to avoid the human and political costs.
Israeli TV channel 12 said the raid would begin late at night local time (late afternoon Brazilian time).
The United Nations (UN) has already stated that a land invasion will have “catastrophic humanitarian consequences” given the high population density in the Gaza Strip.
“In recent days, Armed Forces fighters have been fighting terrorists in several settlements and outposts around the Gaza Strip. Now, supported by extensive logistical efforts and the reserve mobilization of hundreds of thousands of military personnel, IDF forces are preparing to implement a broad range of offensive operational plans that include, among other things, an integrated and coordinated attack by air, land and sea.”
