Israel: Shani Louk, missing Hamas German hostage, killed

The body of the 22-year-old was found and identified. The horrific video of her kidnapping went around the world. According to the newspaper Haaretz, 1,135 Israeli deaths have been identified since the start of the war.

German Shani Louk, who was taken hostage by radical Islamist Hamas during its major attack on Israel, is dead. The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Monday via Twitter (X) that the 23-year-old’s body had been found and identified. Louk attended a rave festival in southern Israel that was invaded by Hamas.

According to family members, images and videos circulating on the internet showed the young woman’s body in a truck. Initially, Shani Louk’s family, some of whom live in Baden-Württemberg, assumed that the young woman was seriously injured but was alive and in the Gaza Strip. The family has been campaigning for the release of all hostages since the attack.

Number of Hamas hostages corrected to 239

The Israeli military said it informed 239 families. According to the military, 40 people are still missing since the Hamas terrorist attack. Due to the poor condition of many of the bodies, identification has not yet been completed. The news is terrible. But it’s good to be sure now. “At least she didn’t suffer,” said her mother, Ricarda Louk.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, 1,135 dead Israelis have been identified and 715 have been buried, Israeli authorities announced on Monday, according to Haaretz. So far, 823 civilian deaths have been identified, representing 85 percent of civilian casualties since the fighting began. According to the newspaper, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) allowed the names of the 312 identified soldiers who died during the fighting to be announced.
