Security officers neutralized the vehicle and the two occupants were arrested
An unusual incident took place at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday morning after a vehicle broke through the checkpoint located a few hundred meters from the highway at the entrance to the airport compound. As security forces attempted to arrest the violators, passengers in Terminal 3 were asked to lie on the floor and not move for several minutes.
The officers eventually fired on the fleeing vehicle, slightly injuring one of the passengers who was attempting to flee on foot. The vehicle then stopped and the two occupants, suspected of stealing the vehicle, were arrested and then handed over to the authorities for questioning. The Israel Airport Authority said the “vehicle was stopped en route to Terminal 3” and “the incident is being investigated”.
Terminal 3, where most flights depart from Tel Aviv, is located a few kilometers from the checkpoint at the entrance to the airport. This configuration allows these types of incidents to be controlled, allowing time to apprehend suspects before entering the terminal, which is always filled with thousands of passengers.
Last September, a Palestinian in a stolen vehicle also breached the checkpoint at the entrance to Ben Gurion Airport. A security guard then drew his gun and shot the car. The suspect, a 35-year-old West Bank resident, fled to a gas station and abandoned the vehicle. He was then arrested.
