Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Thursday (14) that the war against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip will last “more than several months”.
Jake Sullivan, White House national security adviser, said the Israeli military must find a way to reduce the intensity of its bombing campaign.
Despite signs of impatience from the US, its main ally Israel stepped up attacks.
A visit by the American Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to Israel is planned soon.
The war in Gaza began after Hamas' October 7 terrorist attacks in southern Israel. During the operation, 1,200 people were massacred and 240 civilians and military personnel were kidnapped.
“Hamas is a terrorist organization founded over a decade to fight Israel and has built underground and aerial infrastructure that is not easily destroyed. It will take time to achieve this, more than a few months. But we will win and destroy.” The Palestinian organization assured the Israeli defense minister, who met with Sullivan.
Before the trip, Sullivan said during a Wall Street Journal event that he would discuss a timetable for ending the war and urge Israeli authorities to “move to another phase of the highintensity operations that we are seeing today.”
Netanyahu acknowledged that there were “disagreements” with the United States over how to manage Gaza after the conflict.
The UN General Assembly this week overwhelmingly approved a nonbinding ceasefire agreement, but the United States said it opposed the decision.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh stated on Wednesday (13) that “any discussion about Gaza or the Palestinian cause without the presence of Hamas or resistance groups will be an illusion.”
