“A warplane attacked the launchers from which shots were fired from Syrian territory into Israeli territory yesterday evening,” the Israeli army said on X (formerly Twitter).

A few hours earlier, she had reported several rocket attacks that struck “open areas”.

According to Israeli public radio station Kan, the sites attacked are in the Daraa region of southern Syria and are linked to Iranian allies.

Since October 7, the date of the bloody Hamas attack in Israel, the Israeli Air Force has carried out several airstrikes in Syria, particularly targeting the airports of Aleppo and Damascus.

Tensions are also high on the Israel-Lebanese border, where there are almost daily exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and pro-Palestinian armed groups, including the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Hezbollah, a Hamas ally, said on Sunday it had shot down an Israeli drone over Israeli territory with a surface-to-air missile and announced the death of one of its fighters.

The Israeli army, for its part, reported new shots from Lebanon towards the Har Dov and Kiryat Shmona areas and said it had responded.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory since the war there began in 2011.

Its air force particularly targeted forces backed by Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, as well as the Syrian army.
