On his account on X (formerly Twitter), the left-wing parliamentarian criticized the recent attacks by Jewish extremist groups against various Palestinian cities.
“Ethnic cleansing must not take place in the West Bank!” warned a deputy from the Hadash party.
An advocate for the establishment of a Palestinian state and the end of the occupation, Cassif strongly criticized Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and advocated for dialogue to achieve peace.
Last week, on the same social network, he questioned the police state that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government had introduced in the country, arguing to protect citizens after the declaration of war on the Palestinians.
“Prohibition of demonstrations, brutal police violence and persecution of every voice for peace: the world must know about the dictatorial police state that is emerging in Israel under the guise of war,” he wrote.
Days earlier, he declared that the executive branch’s decision to deport and attack 1.1 million Palestinians from northern Gaza was a war crime and against humanity.
“Deporting civilians from their homes (ethnic cleansing) is a war crime, and shooting civilians fleeing to save their lives from the terror of ‘cleaning bombs’ is a crime against humanity,” he stressed.
He also condemned National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s threats to deport critics of the military operation against the coastal enclave.
“The racist and failed commissioner (…) allows himself with all his impudence to call for the deportation of war opponents in Gaza,” he noted.
This month, the parliamentarian condemned the Knesset (legislative) ethics committee’s decision to suspend him for 45 days after he accused the government in an interview of wanting the current wave of violence.
In his statements, he also explained that Israel is bombing the coastal enclave to “implement a fascist plan” by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who, like Ben Gvir, is known for his anti-Arab and far-right positions.
The committee’s decision is another nail in the coffin for freedom of political expression in this country, Cassid noted.
Earlier this year, Cassif was temporarily suspended after he called MP Almog Cohen, a member of the far-right Jewish Power Party, a Nazi, stupid and bloodthirsty.
