Israeli president accuses International Court of Justice of distorting his words

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said the International Court of Justice twisted its words when it ordered the Israeli government to take measures to protect Palestinians and prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip. They used “very, very incomplete and fragmented quotes,” he said.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog accused the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of distorting his words in a ruling in which he ordered the Israeli government to take measures to protect Palestinians Avoid genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The International Court of Justice's ruling issued Friday cited several statements by Israeli leaders as evidence of dehumanizing language and incitement against Palestinians. Those statements included comments Herzog made just days after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel that sparked the war between Israel and the Islamic group.

Hamas fighters They killed about 1,200 people participated in this attack and took another 250 hostages. The Israeli offensive left more than its mark 26,000 Palestinians deadwhich led to the displacement of more than 80% of Gaza's residents and triggered a humanitarian crisis in the territory.

What is genocide and how does the International Court of Justice act?

Speaking at a news conference on October 12 about the Palestinians in Gaza, Herzog said that “an entire nation” was responsible for the massacre, the International Court of Justice report said.

But Herzog said the document ignores other comments made at the same news conference in which he stated that there was “no excuse” for the killing of innocent civilians and that Israel would respect the international laws of war.

“I was outraged by the way they twisted my words by using very, very incomplete and fragmented quotes with the intent of supporting a baseless legal argument,” Herzog said Sunday.

In its ruling, the ICJ did not order an end to the military offensive Israeli. However, he ordered Israel to do everything in its power to prevent death, destruction and any acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, and issued a series of instructions to the Israeli government, including ceasing incitement and handing over a progress report to the court within a month.
