Israel’s response to the Gaza Strip since the Hamas attack on October 7th has been “neither targeted nor proportionate,” said former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin on franceinfo on Tuesday, November 7th. “We are essentially pursuing a policy of revenge, Israel has the right to self-defense, but self-defense is not an indiscriminate right to kill civilians,” emphasizes the former foreign minister.
Dominique de Villepin regrets the “massacre” and particularly calls the ambulance a “target”. According to Hamas, at least 10,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7 and the start of the Israeli response.

According to the former prime minister, the Israeli government bears “direct responsibility for what happened on October 7 with the Hamas attack in Israel” because it failed to “protect the Israeli people.” The Islamist group’s attack killed at least 1,400 Israelis and more than 240 hostages are still being held in the Gaza Strip. Israel is also responsible, said Dominique de Villepin, because the country “promoted a policy of occupation and colonization in the West Bank.”
