An Israeli ship was attacked by an Iranian-made drone in the Indian Ocean on Friday, a US military official said on Saturday.
“We are aware of reports that a Shahed-136 drone hit a ship in the Indian Ocean,” the official told AFP, adding that the boat was damaged but not damaged. There were no injuries on board.
The attack came after threats by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Israeli and Israel-allied ships traveling in the Red Sea.
These rebels announced on Sunday the seizure of a cargo ship with 25 crew members on board in the Red Sea, chartered by a Japanese group and flying the Bahamas flag, in retaliation for Israel’s war against the Palestinian Hamas in Gaza.
In recent weeks, Houthi rebels have fired several drones and missiles into Israeli territory.
According to a maritime source, the boat attacked on Friday was a “Maltese-flagged container ship” and the vessel is operated by “an Israel-linked company.” […]which would explain why he was targeted.
According to this source, before the attack, transmissions tracking the location of this ship had been interrupted shortly after it left the port of Jebel Ali, a part of Dubai on the Gulf.
