- In the footage, the soldier can be seen walking towards the mosque and throwing the grenade
An Israeli soldier who threw a grenade at a mosque in the Palestinian West Bank has been suspended, the Israel Defense Forces said.
Social media footage showed the soldier approaching the building in the village of Budrus.
The video shows him walking towards the mosque at night, throwing the grenade towards the door and walking away – while the call to prayer echoes in the background.
Then an explosion is heard and the singing suddenly stops as the video cuts out.
In a statement released Friday evening, the IDF said it was taking the incident “extremely seriously,” adding that the soldier was “suspended pending a full investigation.”
The IDF continued, saying that “appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.”

Hamas’s October 7 raids took more than 230 hostages and killed at least 1,200 people.
Israeli police investigators also raised the death toll at the Nova music festival to 364 last night – previously saying 270 people had been killed at the event in the Negev desert.
The new figure means that a quarter of the victims of the Hamas bloodbath died in the event. Police are confident that Hamas knew nothing about the festival.
Survivors have told how they fled the carnage as terrorists burned cars, gunned down others and ferried hostages into Gaza on motorcycles and pickup trucks.
Dozens of cars were left behind after terrorists stormed the festival near the Gaza Strip in a surprise attack last month.
Several vehicles burned out, and many had entire windows missing.
Tents, including those where events were held during the festival, were also abandoned by organizers and festival goers alike.
Haunting images revealed the eerie silence that spread across the grounds of the Nova festival – where 364 people reportedly lost their lives.

Joshua Loitu Mollel and Clemence Felix Mtenga from Tanzania were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists
Festival-goers knew there was a risk of rocket attacks. But they didn’t expect a truckload of armed men to turn off the power to the festival, storm the site and fire indiscriminately into the crowd.
On Saturday, a march by the families of the hostages who left Tel Aviv on Tuesday is scheduled to end with a rally in Jerusalem.
The Tanzanian government also announced that a citizen of the country who was taken hostage last month had died.
Clemence Felix Mtenga, 22, was captured in a raid by Hamas terrorists on Kibbutz Nahal Oz, although it was not immediately clear where he died or how this was confirmed.
The Tanzanian Foreign Ministry’s statement said it was in contact with Israeli authorities regarding the fate of another national, Joshua Mollel.
Officials in Israel said both men were in the country on an agricultural programming internship when they were abducted and taken to Gaza.
