Survivors of Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel say “drastic” measures are needed to prevent the terror group from indoctrinating children in the Gaza Strip with its distorted and violent worldview.

“It’s not enough for us to get rid of Hamas,” said 68-year-old Adele Raemer, who was locked in the security room of her home for 14 hours as Hamas terrorists burned down Kibbutz Nirim around her.

“Something very drastic has to happen to re-educate everyone living on the other side so that the threat is neutralized,” she told the Post.

Raemer worked as an educator in Israel for over four decades, often volunteering in educational initiatives with Palestinian teachers over the years. He has seen the ideas the Hamas regime has instilled in Gaza’s children in classrooms.

“These children are taught hate in their school books. “They are taught, ‘If you have six Jews and you kill four of them, how many Jews are left?’ in the truest sense of the word,” she said.

Hamas textbooks have been widely criticized for distorting and inventing facts about Palestinian and Israeli history while promoting an anti-Semitic worldview that portrays anyone killed in the conflict with Israel as a “martyr.”

Maya Parizer, 27, felt compassion for the plight of children in Gaza during the 2014 conflict with Israel – she even argued for them in heated discussions with friends at the time – but wondered: “Is there hope in the world?” after surviving the Nova Festival massacre on October 7th.

“These children, these innocent children that I discussed and fought with my friends and said, ‘They are innocent, they just want to live like you like me,’ they are today’s terrorists.”

According to the Times of Israel, Hamas is notorious for indoctrinating children against Israel not only in the classroom but also in militarized summer camps where they don uniforms, learn to shoot and are trained in military tactics.

“They were the ones who kidnapped my friends, they were the ones who wanted to kill as many of us as possible,” Parizer said.

“How can I still trust that they are good people there when I see what they have done to my friends, what they have done to women, what they have done to children?” she added. “I still care, even if I don’t think they deserve it.”

Hamas is known for indoctrinating Palestinian youth from a young age with violent militarized propaganda against Israel

Raemer said people around the world who have demonstrated for the Palestinians – carrying signs reading “By any means necessary” and chanting “From the river to the sea…” – do not understand that the enemy of the Palestinians is not Israel, but Israel is the extremist ideology of Hamas and its exploitative government.

“It’s about the oppressed, about supporting the oppressed. But what they fail to understand is that the oppressed are first oppressed by their own leaders,” she said.

“We must get rid of Hamas, not only for ourselves but also for the good of the Palestinian people.

“For the people who live where I live, [it’s] in their best interest so that the people on the other side are well. And that’s what we’ve been saying all along. But when they say, “Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea,” [meaning the eradication of Israel] We must understand that this is a genocidal war cry, and I will take them at their word.”

Netta Atzili, 20, whose parents were taken hostage by Hamas while he barricaded himself in his apartment armed only with a kitchen knife, said the terror group did not care about the lives of the Palestinian people – only their value as cannon fodder in his quest to destroy Israel.

“I think it’s very important that people understand that this is not about Israel versus Palestine. It’s Hamas against everything,” he said.

“It is terrible that people from Palestine are dying as a result of our attacks. But Hamas knew it would happen. And not only did they know this, they expected us to kill their civilians as collateral damage, they also used them as human shields. They place their supplies and infrastructure in hospitals in densely populated areas and in schools.”

“They are a cancer on society, they would extort, they would endanger their civilians, they would do anything just to harm us,” he said.
