Israel’s answer to "terrorism" which is Hamas "crazy"says Lula

President spoke about the conflict in the Middle East this Friday (October 20) during the Bolsa Família 20th anniversary event.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) commented live via video conference this Friday (October 20, 2023) on the war between Israel and Hamas during the event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Bolsa Família at the Ministry of Social Development. According to the PT member, the occasion reminded him of the “children who have died in the Gaza Strip since the war began on October 7.” He called the Hamas attack an “act of madness” and “terrorism” and the Israeli response “insane.”

“And today, as the Bolsa Família program turns 20, I keep reminding myself that 1,500 children have already died in the Gaza Strip. Children who did not ask Hamas to commit this crazy act of terrorism and attacking Israel. But they also didn’t ask Israel to react insanely and kill them,” he said. In the video, the president sat on a sofa next to First Lady Janja da Silva.

Lula also expressed solidarity with the children killed in the war between Russia and Ukraine and called for a ceasefire to protect victims of the conflicts. “It is not possible, so much irrationality, it is not possible so much madness for people to wage war, considering that those dying are women, the elderly and children who do not even have the right to life “, he explained.

It was the president’s first public appearance since he underwent two surgeries on his hip and eyelids on September 29.

Lula was in isolation without receiving visitors at the Palácio da Alvorada as he was released from the hospital in Brasília until October 13th. There were only a few video meetings and telephone conversations with heads of state from other countries during the reporting period.

This week the president resumed his personal meetings in Alvorada, but he still does not have an exact date for resuming his work at the Palácio do Planalto.
