- (336) First documented records of the Christian celebration of Christmas In Rome;
- (508) The Barbarian King Clovis IKing of the Franks, is baptized into the Christian faith by Saint Remigius.

- (1758) The German astronomer Johann Georg Palitzsch discovered the Halley's Comet, confirming Edmund Halley's predictions about the passage of the comet of the same name. This was the first comet transit predicted in advance.
Brazil
- (1881) Brazilian inventor Júlio César Ribeiro de Sousa takes part in the first balloon flight in Brazil. The airship LeVictoria flies in Belém, in what was then the province of Pará.
Wars and rumors
- (1914) on the Western Front of First World WarA series of truces occur to celebrate Christmas. The suspension of conflict in favor of Christian celebration attracted media attention at the time, so letters from British soldiers were intercepted by reporters looking for news armistice;
- (1941) World War II: on December 25th, the Battle of Hong Kongwith the beginning of the Japanese occupation of the region.
Deaths
- (1895) Raul PompeiaBrazilian writer, born in 1863. With his major work The Ateneu, Pompeia became a reference for the realistic and naturalistic trends in national literature;
- (1977) Charlie ChaplinBritish director, producer, actor and musician, born in 1889. Chaplin is considered a leading actor of the silent film era.
