A picture is circulating on social media showing the recently inaugurated President of Argentina, Javier Milei, kneeling before the President of China, Xi Jinping. IS FAKE.

One version of the fake caption reads: “The one kneeling before the president of China (yes, communist China) is the president of Argentina.”
The claim is not true. A search for provenance shows that the picture that supposedly shows Milei kneeling in front of the President of China is not real.
The image circulating online is a new, manipulated version of an image that has been circulating on the Internet since March 2023.
The original image reportedly shows Russian President Vladimir Putin kneeling before Xi Jinping. The content shares commonalities in images created using artificial intelligence, such as: B. unclear hands, disproportionate body extremities and shoes.
Artificial intelligence detectors are very likely to indicate that this older content is not real either.

The false image circulated in the first days after Milei's inauguration, with no reliable record of a personal meeting between him and the Chinese president. Although Milei promised during the election campaign to cut ties with China, after taking office he communicated with Xi Jinping by letter, demanding the release of a $5 billion deal negotiated by the previous government.
