It seems to be out of control Halloween maze canceled

“It seems to be out of control”: Halloween maze canceled in Saguenay –

Due to the inappropriate behavior of some citizens, the Jardins d’Alex et Jennie company in Saguenay has decided to cancel the second weekend of its Halloween night maze this year.

After a very busy first Saturday, the organization of the event fell victim to its success by failing to provide enough security guards to monitor the site.

“It seemed to be degenerating in the labyrinth,” explains Karine Dumais, owner of Aux Jardins d’Alex et Jennie.

“Several gangs of teenagers came and then they started snatching corn from the customers and the monsters, so the monsters wouldn’t go into the maze anymore,” she adds.

In addition to the corn, some young people on site also allegedly threw beer bottles and stones at the actors and visitors to the event.

“Everything was more complicated, and that took away my taste,” says Ms. Dumais.

Saguenay police received several complaints throughout the evening related to illegal parking on Talbot Boulevard, a zone exceeding 70 km/h.

After numerous calls, the police had to intervene on site.

“The police initially came to raise awareness,” said police spokesman Dominic Gagnon.

The organization had planned parking spaces, “but these were not respected by the citizens,” explains Mr. Gagnon.

The spokesman regrets that “for security reasons, we had no choice but to file a criminal complaint to prevent this, but perhaps also to save lives.”

According to police, people were “crossing” “somewhere.”

There was also a hit-and-run accident near the event.

An impaired driver, who police say was twice the limit, is said to have crashed into another vehicle before fleeing.

The Halloween maze, very popular among the citizens of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, will be open only to children next Saturday.

The owner doesn’t know yet whether she will try to organize the event again next year.
