Everything points to the end of forward Jonathan Toews’ glorious career in the National Hockey League as he announces his retirement later this summer.
At least, that’s what journalist Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff website said in a podcast published online Tuesday. At this time, the news from the 35-year veteran isn’t being confirmed, but the hockey pundit, for his part, said he’s heard echoes that Manitoban have decided to hang up their skates.
Toews played his entire career with the Chicago Blackhawks and won the Stanley Cup three times. They stated at the end of last season that the captain will not be returning to the Windy City after his eight-year contract and $84 million contract expires. In addition, local media reported that the player’s agency – CAA – did not include his name in the list of full autonomy players submitted to the league.
The Pivot has had health issues in recent years. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome saw him sidelined for the entire 2020-21 season, and during the final regular season, the effects of COVID-19 slowed him down, averaging 31 points in 53 games for the Hawks, who finished second-bottom in the Western Conference.
